Compounded combination, not FDA-approved. Oral minoxidil's approved indication is severe hypertension; its use for hair loss is off-label.

What it does

Finasteride lowers DHT. Oral minoxidil circulates through the body and is used off-label for hair loss. Biotin is vitamin B7; extra biotin is most clearly useful when a deficiency exists.

What's in it

Finasteride

What it is
5-alpha-reductase inhibitor / DHT blocker.
Hormone?
Not a hormone.
Why it's here
Lowers DHT by reducing conversion of testosterone to DHT.

Minoxidil

What it is
Oral vasodilator used off-label for hair loss.
Hormone?
Not a hormone.
Why it's here
Oral use exposes the whole body, not just the scalp.

Biotin

What it is
Vitamin B7.
Hormone?
Not a hormone.
Why it's here
True biotin deficiency can cause hair loss, but deficiency is uncommon and routine extra biotin has limited evidence for regrowth in people without deficiency.

Why choose this one?

Why choose this one

For men who want both DHT reduction and minoxidil without applying medication to the scalp.

Why choose another option?

Topical treatment may be preferable if you want to avoid the broader systemic exposure of oral minoxidil and finasteride.

Common side effects

Oral minoxidil can cause increased facial/body hair, ankle swelling, dizziness, headache, faster heart rate or blood-pressure effects. Finasteride can cause sexual side effects and other systemic effects.

What may help

General measures that may help:

  • Stand up slowly if you feel lightheaded.
  • Tell your clinician about blood-pressure medicines or supplements you take.
  • Unwanted facial or body hair is the most common side effect of oral minoxidil. Let your clinician know if it bothers you, because the plan can be reviewed.
  • Temporary shedding in the first one to two months can happen as hair cycles reset (9% of men taking oral minoxidil in one trial).

Do not change your dose on your own.

Important safety information

Pregnancy and fertility. Not for anyone who is or may become pregnant. Finasteride exposure during pregnancy is a concern because it can affect the development of a male fetus. The FDA label for finasteride tablets warns against handling crushed or broken tablets during pregnancy; confirm handling precautions for this compounded capsule with your clinician or pharmacy.

Oral minoxidil's approved indication is severe hypertension and its label contains serious cardiovascular warnings; its use for hair loss is off-label. Finasteride pregnancy precautions apply. Compounded combination, not FDA-approved.

This is a compounded medication. Compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved.

Prescription treatments require evaluation by a licensed clinician and are not appropriate for everyone. Some ingredients are not appropriate during pregnancy or for people who may become pregnant. Compounded formulas are not FDA-approved. Not available in all states.

When to contact your clinician

Contact your clinician about sexual side effects that bother you or persist, breast tenderness, enlargement or a lump, or changes in mood such as low mood or depression.

Contact your clinician promptly about swelling of the ankles, feet or face, rapid weight gain, a fast or pounding heartbeat, or dizziness or fainting.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent help for thoughts of harming yourself, or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Finasteride exposure during pregnancy is a concern. The FDA label for finasteride tablets warns against handling crushed or broken tablets during pregnancy, so confirm handling precautions for this compounded capsule with your clinician or pharmacy.

Seek urgent care for chest pain, shortness of breath or feeling faint.

Questions people ask

Why oral instead of topical?

Convenience: one capsule avoids daily scalp application. The tradeoff is systemic exposure, and oral minoxidil and finasteride have more systemic considerations than simple topical treatment.

Can this affect sexual function?

Yes, it can. Finasteride can cause sexual side effects and other systemic effects.

Does biotin actually regrow hair?

True biotin deficiency can cause hair loss, but deficiency is uncommon, and evidence that extra biotin improves hair in otherwise healthy people is limited.

Finasteride sexual side effects: how common are they?

In the clinical trials behind the U.S. label for finasteride 1 mg, 3.8% of men reported one or more sexual side effects, compared with 2.1% on placebo. Lower libido (1.8% vs 1.3%) and erectile dysfunction (1.3% vs 0.7%) were the most common. The label also describes post-marketing reports of sexual side effects that continued after stopping; a direct cause has not been established, but the reports are taken seriously. Topical use aims to lower whole-body exposure, but some finasteride can still be absorbed. Tell your clinician about any changes.

Oral vs topical minoxidil: what is the difference?

Both use the same medicine. In a 2024 randomized trial in men, oral minoxidil 5 mg daily was not superior to 5% topical minoxidil used twice daily after 24 weeks; both improved hair density. Oral treatment avoids daily scalp application but acts on the whole body. In a study of 1,404 people taking low-dose oral minoxidil for hair loss, unwanted body or facial hair was the most common side effect (about 15%), while lightheadedness, fluid retention and a fast heartbeat each affected fewer than 2%.

Why am I shedding more at first?

Minoxidil can push resting hairs out as new growth starts, so some people shed more in the first one to two months. In one trial this happened in 16% of men using topical minoxidil and 9% using oral minoxidil. It is usually temporary. Tell your clinician if shedding continues beyond a few months.
